There's an error at the beggining of the video. Polyamory is not to be married to more than one person, it's the possibility to cultivate multiple romantic relationships at the same time. Polygamy is to have multiple spouses at once. Take something like the FLDS church, which allows polygyny, men make take many wives, but in contrast women may have only one husband. This is polygamy, but it's not polyamory, as there is no social liberty to establish multiple romantic relationships, there is absolute control of female love and reproduction by their husband. Contrast that with the Akha people of South East Asia, they do have polygamy in the form of polygyny, but married men and women may have sexual and romantic partners outside their marriage; the figure of the spouse is primarily an economic one, not associated with love or sexual restriction. This is polygamy and polyamory, as there is no control over romance despite marriage. And then there's the Pirahã people of Northern Brazil, they engage in mnogamous marriages but have no restrictions to relationships outside marriage, be it romantic or sexual, you may be bound to your spouse, but Pirahã will often have sexual encounters with others besides their husband/wife and even outside their ethnic group. This is monogamy but also polyamory, marriages are one person to another, but love and sex are not regulated by that system. There's a huge difference between the western concept of polyamory, which I am loosely applying to the Akha and the Pirahã, and the traditional marriage rites and practices of various societies around the world. And you also focus on very specific groups and ignore to mention ones that practice polygyny and aren't in particularly violent regions, like the Akha I've already mentioned, nor pratitioners of polyandry, the vast majority of which are notoriously peaceful peoples like the Bororo and Zoé of Brazil, the Mosuo of China, the Inuit of North America and the Nepali. Like, there's a problem of theoretical rigor and of bad anthropological categories, you picked a region that is notorious for multiple historical issues like being the primary area for the transatlantic slave trade, a long history of colonialism, economic and social problems and associate it with one cultural practice that is common there. Don't take this as a staunch defense of polyamory or polygamy nor a takedown, I mean all of this as constructive criticism. I thinks it's worth trying to make these associations, but this just isn't working for multiple reasons. I applied polyamory to non-western groups, but they'd hardly conflate themselves with the idea of polycules and loose networks of platonic and romantic relationships you'd associate with polyamory, while a western woman with two partners who each have another three partners would also likely not share any noticeable cultural trait with the Ngwa or Lingala peoples of Africa. This is our own perspective being projected onto them because of surface-level similarities, these are not hard-defining categories that exist independent of us using them or not.

5:10 is not a fair statement. Stereotypes exist for a reason. Every person on this planet has one. It takes a psychologically developed person to either confirm or dispel their held stereotype for someone. In my case, women with tattoos usually have had multiple body counts and in relationships tend to fare more masculine than feminine. I think I have maybe been wrong like 10% of the time. Not only have I seen this but my friends have as well. Like come on let's be honest here. We are not perfect and stereotyping people will inherently happen and is bound to happen. A person who is smart should recognize if they have been stereotyped or might be stereotyped and try and dispel it if possible. This is how most interactions occur across different cultures are supposed to occur in an ideal world. Edit: the solution to most problems we are dealing with in post modernism is to embrace the 7th level of the AQAL Map by Ken Wilbur. I don't think he even knows this but not only did he pretty much predict where we would be today but his writings overlap with those of others like Jean Baudrillard that discuss post modernism. However the only way people can get out of tribalistic and binary thinking (which ironically scientists and political extremists both take part in) is to conduct shadow work on ourselves and try. Whilst also taking in not only the current cultural context of the problems we deal with but the broader HISTORICAL context. This is what will lead to harmony.

In some ways, even though I was born in 1988, I actually feel like I understand a lot of what you're saying. I have always had a tendency to nihilism and alternating between perfectionism and laziness. I overanalyze everything, and eventually get overwhelmed by looking at things in different ways. I suspect it could be because I was a bit socially isolated growing up because my Mom didn't make me go to school for a long time, and I spend a lot of time online in the late 1990s/early 2000s, far more than most people did at the time. It was my only real connection to other people. I wound up being this chronically online person addicted to forum communities and AIM/IRC, always questioning my MBTI and enneagram type, etc. I wound up graduating high school in 2007, just in time for the economic crash of 2008, and I just wasn't the kind of person who could handle what people nowadays call "adulting." I just couldn't drive a car, wasn't comfortable with very physical labor, and generally wasn't self-motivated, hungry, or self-disciplined enough to apply for jobs over and over expecting a different result from hundreds of failed attempts. Most of my peers were able to get through that and succeed in life, at least somewhat. I was the weird, nihilistic, chronically online one that wasn't able to make my life work or navigate society effectively, and everyone just kind of felt sorry for me and left me to sit in front of my computer... really the biggest difference between myself and Gen Z I can think of is that I prefer typing on a real keyboard, don't like touchscreens much, and am very long-winded. Then again, even Millennials my own age were happy with Twitter and iPhones while I stubbornly stuck to the PC.
